Being a dancer I appreciate a lot of dance cultures. Each culture has something unique about it like their artifacts, their behavior, and more importantly their movement. Every dance culture has a different dance background and a story to tell that would inspire the world. That is why there are ethnographers for dance. Relating ethnography to dance helps answer questions on why people dance and what the dance might mean to them. Just watching people dance really doesn't have an effect on someone. When you actually know their pain, struggle, happiness, and success you'll find out the true meaning of that dance. Reading "Dance In the Field" help me realize how important it is to really study movement and the dancer's behavior. Chapter seven Capturing the Dancing: Why and How? really interested me because you have to take a dance step by step and tear it up into pieces and look at why they are doing a certain move. Ethnographer's try to capture the special moments in dance. Those special moments of the dance is what matters. Buckland really inspired me to study dance in a different way. I recommend everyone to read her ethnography.
